If you’re considering paying someone to fix your credit you should know that you can do it yourself and save yourself some money. If you’re hearing claims that a credit repair company can do marvelous things in a short amount of time that is an immediate red flag. So instead, save your money with a do it yourself credit repair strategy.
The process is very simple. However, it can take some time before you have a clean credit sheet. Here now is a step by step guide.
- Call or write the three largest credit agencies and request a copy of your credit report. These companies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are required by law to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once a year.
- When you get your report you need to check it to make sure the information is correct. If you find any inaccurate information on your report you need to write a dispute letter and ask the credit agencies to correct the information.
- Pay your debts. However even if you pay off outstanding debts, they will still remain on your record for 7 years. It will show up as paid and will improve your score, however there will be another improvement when the record drops off.
- Time. Nothing is done quickly in the credit industry. Time is your best to improving your credit score. If you have nothing negative added to your score it will continually increase over time.

This is true, time is your best friend when it comes to repairing your credit.
All good tips! After you are sure your credit reports are accurate, try to space out your yearly requests for your free credit report so that you request a different one about every 4 months. That way you are keeping tabs on your credit info throughout the year and it’s all free!
I meant to say you should request the yearly free report from a different agency every 4 months. Just mark your calendar when it’s time to make the request & who to send it to that time.
